İlhan Erşahin is a Swedish-born Turkish-Swedish saxophonist, composer, producer and entrepreneur known for a distinctive style blending jazz with electronic music, Eastern tones and world rhythms. Born in Stockholm in 1965 to a Swedish mother and Turkish father, he earned a scholarship to Berklee College of Music and moved to the US, settling in New York from 1990 and performing with jazz legends like Joe Lovano. He has released albums worldwide with groups he founded, including Wax Poetic and Istanbul Sessions, and in 2002 opened the club Nublu in New York's East Village, which became a gathering point for musicians from around the world — the improvised jams born there became known in music literature as the "Nublu Sound." Founder of the label Nublu Records and his own jazz festivals, Erşahin is considered one of the most prolific and visionary figures on today's global jazz scene.
