Oceanvs Orientalis is a globally renowned electronic music project launched in 2011 by Istanbul-born DJ, producer and composer Şafak Öz Kütle, blending traditional Eastern rhythms with modern electronic production. Before his music career, he worked as a graphic designer and creative director in Istanbul until age 24, discovering his sound while experimenting with a roommate's Ableton software by adding rhythm to classical and world music melodies; rejecting the confines of any single genre, Öz Kütle integrates the rich sonic heritage of Turkish, Kurdish, Arab and Armenian traditions from Mesopotamia and the wider East into innovative electronic productions. He first made his name playing at Istanbul's famed Suma Beach club and released his official debut, the "Khronos" EP, on a Berlin-based label in 2015, quickly shifting from DJ sets to live performances and playing major festivals across the world, from Brazil to Germany to Cambodia. In 2017 he founded Kanto Records, a Barcelona-based independent label and arts collective, and now operates primarily out of Spain.
