Momoko Gill, full name Momoko Watanabe Gill and also known in music circles as MettaShiba, is a London-based drummer, producer, songwriter and vocalist whose multicultural upbringing across Japan, the US and the UK shapes her music, which fuses electronic, experimental jazz and soul. A self-taught instrumentalist who trusts instinct over classical convention, she plays drums and sings as her primary tools but also performs on keys and vibraphone, and has been a long-standing figure in London's experimental jazz and electronic scenes, collaborating with artists including Alabaster DePlume, Coby Sey, Tirzah and celebrated electronic composer Matthew Herbert. After years working behind the scenes and on collaborations, she released her eponymous debut solo album "Momoko" on Strut Records in February 2026, earning strong critical acclaim for blending jazz textures with experimental electronic music.
