Mehmet Erdem
Mehmet Erdem is a Turkish singer, songwriter and film composer known for his distinctively husky, deep voice and melancholic style, beloved for original interpretations of songs like "Hakim Bey" and "Acıyı Sevmek Olur mu." Born in Manisa in 1978 to a family originally from Arapgir, Malatya, he graduated from Izmir Science High School before completing Mechanical Engineering at Boğaziçi University; coming from a family of musicians, he began playing mandolin at age 5 and later learned instruments including oud, cümbüş, bağlama and fretless guitar. He entered professional music in 1999 by joining the popular ethnic music group Kardeş Türküler, and before his solo career composed scores for numerous films and TV series, winning Best Film Score at the Golden Orange Film Festival for "Deli Deli Olma" and contributing to hit productions like "Leyla ile Mecnun" and "Behzat Ç." He broke out as a solo artist with his 2012 debut album "Herkes Aynı Hayatta," followed by acclaimed albums including "Hiç Konuşmadan" and "Neden Böyleyiz," and married actress Vildan Atasever in 2021.
