Kolektif İstanbul is a high-energy band formed in Istanbul in 2006 that fuses Anatolian and Balkan music with jazz and funk. Founded by French saxophonist Richard Laniepce, they draw inspiration from traditional wedding musicians and are known for their joyful onstage improvisation. The lineup includes vocalist Aslı Doğan, clarinetist Talat Karaoğlu and Ertan Şahin, one of the rare musicians in Turkey to play the sousaphone, and they've performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and Istanbul Jazz Festival. With albums including Balkanatolia (2006) and Kısmet (2021), they're known for popular tracks like "Hamamcı Teyze" and "Gül Ali."
