Jembaa Groove
Jembaa Groove is a multicultural, Berlin-based music group founded in late 2020, blending traditional Ghanaian highlife rhythms with 1970s US soul, jazz and funk, and regarded as one of the most notable acts in the global Afro-jazz and modern Afro-fusion scene. The band was formed by two musicians who happened to meet in Berlin while dropping their kids off at daycare: Ghanaian vocalist and percussionist Eric Owusu, who spent years working with legendary African music figures like Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas, and German bassist, composer and producer Yannick Nolting, who had previously worked in Lisbon with Portuguese-speaking African musicians. Typically performing as a dynamic 6-7-member collective drawing musicians from Germany, Ghana, Benin, Portugal and Israel, the band sings in languages including Ga, Twi, Yoruba and pidgin English. After releasing the albums "Susuma" (2022) and "Ye Ankasa | We Ourselves" (2024), Jembaa Groove released the EP "Be A Lover" in 2026 in collaboration with artists including The Cavemen and Fatoumata Diawara, continuing to build its reputation through international touring.
