In Flames is a world-renowned melodic death metal band formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1990, considered alongside legendary acts At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity to be among the pioneers of what became known in metal history as the "Gothenburg sound." By fusing aggressive death metal foundations with melodic, dual-guitar harmonies, the band revolutionized extreme metal, an approach that went on to influence countless bands worldwide, from modern American metal to metalcore, while their own sound gradually shifted toward a more alternative, modern metal direction over time. With no original members remaining after founder Jesper Strömblad's departure in 2010, the band's core since 1995 has been vocalist Anders Fridén and guitarist Björn Gelotte. Having sold more than 2 million albums worldwide, In Flames has produced metal classics including "The Jester Race," "Whoracle" and "Clayman," with their most recent studio album, "Foregone," released in 2023.
