Hüsnü Arkan

Hüsnü Arkan is one of Turkish music's most respected lyricists, composers, performers and novelists, best known as the long-time vocalist and songwriter of Turkey's storied alternative folk-rock group Ezginin Günlüğü. Born in 1958 in Kınık, İzmir, he studied architecture and law before being forced abroad for political reasons in 1985, began his musical journey with the group Hezarfen in Amsterdam, and released his debut solo album "Bir Yalnızlık Ezgisi" in 1991, setting poems by Nazım Hikmet and Can Yücel to music. He returned to Turkey in 1993 and joined Ezginin Günlüğü's legendary lineup, lending his voice, lyrics and compositions to 11 of the band's albums including "İstavrit," "Oyun" and "Ebruli," before leaving in 2010 to pursue a solo career, releasing his Solo album featuring the duet "Hoş Geldin" with Birsen Tezer, as well as Kırık Hava featuring collaborations with artists like Cem Adrian. Beyond music, Arkan is a prolific novelist who won Turkey's prestigious Orhan Kemal Novel Award in 2015 for his book "Hırsız ve Burjuva."
