Gülşen
Gülşen, full name Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu, is one of the most successful, best-selling singers, lyricists and composers in Turkish pop. Born in Istanbul's Çapa neighborhood in 1976 to a family from Ordu, the third of three children, she split her childhood between Istanbul and Ordu, graduated from Şehremini Anatolian High School and enrolled in Istanbul Technical University's Turkish Music Theory department before leaving to focus on her demanding stage career; she also earned a black belt in karate during high school. Discovered performing at a bar in 1995, she broke through with her debut album "Be Adam" in 1996, reached massive popularity with her 2004 album and title track "Of... Of...," and went on to break sales records with subsequent albums like "Beni Durdursan mı?" (2013) and "Bangır Bangır" (2015), scoring weeks-long chart-toppers like "Dan Dan" and "Bangır Bangır." Known also for her bold, empowered stage persona, daring costumes and social responsibility work with organizations like UNICEF, she married arranger Ozan Çolakoğlu in 2016, and the couple has a son, Azur Benan.
