Gipsy Kings
Gipsy Kings is a legendary French music group that achieved worldwide fame by blending traditional flamenco rhythms with pop, rumba and salsa. Formed in 1978, the group's members were born and raised in France, though their families were Catalan Gypsies who fled Spain's civil war in the 1930s and settled in southern France; the band came together from the related Reyes and Baliardo families, led by vocalist Nicolas Reyes and guitarist Tonino Baliardo. They first played streets, weddings and festivals as Los Reyes, referencing their surname's meaning of "kings" in Spanish, before changing their name to Gipsy Kings to reflect their nomadic lifestyle. Having sold over 60 million albums worldwide and won a Grammy, the group is known for hits well-loved in Turkey too, like "Bamboleo" and "Djobi Djoba," and frequently tours the country.
