GiGi FM
GiGi FM, real name Giulia Fournier-Mercadante, is a Berlin-based French-Italian DJ, music producer, professional dancer and multidisciplinary artist known on the electronic music scene for a distinctive style merging rhythm, body movement and spiritual elements. Born and raised in Paris, she trained at the highest level as a dancer during her youth on scholarships to prestigious schools including the NYC Ballet and Alvin Ailey in New York, but after an injury forced her to end her dance career, she moved to London, where roommates introduced her to DJing and she made a name for herself on South London's underground squat rave scene. Fluidly blending techno, bass, breaks, ambient soundscapes and jungle in her sets, and viewing music as an extension of the body as a former dancer, she uses gestural techniques and motion sensors to shape sound with hand and arm movement in her productions, drawing on cosmic themes like astrology and synesthesia. Performing at venues like Berghain/Panorama Bar and Fabric and festivals like Primavera Sound, hosting a regular show on NTS Radio, and running her own label, Sea~rène, GiGi FM has released EPs and albums including "Magnetite" and "Shelter Our Time."
