Evgeny Grinko
Evgeny Grinko is a world-renowned pianist and composer known for melancholic, cinematic compositions, who has built an especially large following in Turkey — bigger, in fact, than in his native Russia. Before turning to classical music, he played drums in a punk rock band starting at 16, and didn't pick up the piano until age 22. Rearranging Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" for a military band proved to be the turning point that led him toward orchestration and classical composition. He gained worldwide recognition with "Valse," streamed millions of times online, and recorded his album Silent Like Water in Istanbul, drawing inspiration from the city's streets; he has played sold-out shows across many Turkish cities.
