Ape Drums, real name Eric Alberto-Lopez, is a Mexican-American DJ and music producer known for blending electronic dance music with Caribbean rhythms like dancehall and moombahton. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he began his music career at just 15, teaching himself production and DJing, and his 2014 debut single "Bashment" made a big splash on dance charts, bringing him global recognition. In 2019, he joined the world-renowned group Major Lazer alongside Diplo and Walshy Fire, replacing Jillionaire, and after joining contributed to hit tracks with global stars like J Balvin, Anitta and Nicki Minaj; his sound, often described as "modern dancehall" or "tropical bass," has more recently shifted toward Afro-tech, Afro-house and Brazilian baile funk rhythms. In his solo career he has worked with artists including Pitbull and Lil Uzi Vert, earning support from giants like Black Coffee and Keinemusik, and currently continues his work based in Miami.
